Braden Smith in NFL draft: new Indianapolis Colts' offensive lineman
Auburn offensive lineman Braden Smith was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts with the 37th overall pick in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft Friday. Smith’s selection makes him the first Auburn football player taken in this year’s draft.
Smith played in 53 games as a Tiger, including 41 consecutive starts to end his career. He started at right guard in all 14 of Auburn’s games last season and helped block for an Auburn offense that averaged 451.6 yards per game.
Smith’s work as a senior earned him first team All-America honors from the Associated Press, CBS and SB Nation as well as the SEC’s Jacobs Blocking Trophy.
Smith’s selection made him the first Auburn offensive lineman drafted since the Cleveland Brown chose Shon Coleman in the third round of the 2016 draft.
