Auburn spring football practice delayed due to concerns of the coronavirus pandemic
Auburn’s spring football practices will not begin on Monday due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the school announced Thursday night.
The program will continue to assess the situation moving forward.
The university will begin transition to online classes that day, with students not allowed back on campus until after April 10.
“Auburn University will transition from on-campus instruction to remote delivery beginning Monday, March 16, and continue through April 10 in response to concerns about the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19),” a release from the school reads.
“University officials ask that students refrain from returning to campus after spring break. University officials will subsequently determine if students will return to campus for the remaining weeks of the spring semester.”
All university events, including sporting events, are canceled through April 10, ensuring appropriate “social distancing” and helping prevent the potential spread of the virus. All university domestic and international travel is also suspended through April 10.
“The well-being of our student-athletes, staff, fans and the Auburn community will always be our highest priority,” Director of Athletics Allen Greene said. “Given the global gravity of COVID-19, we appreciate the complexities of these difficult decisions. Our hearts go out to our student-athletes and coaches who have worked tirelessly to represent Auburn with class and excellence in their quest for championships. We thank the Auburn family for their understanding and patience as we navigate this unprecedented and fluid situation.”
No decision has been made on the A-Day spring football game.
