FIRST QUARTERKey moment: Auburn stuffed South Florida’s initial drive, then had the Bulls facing third-and-9 from the Tiger 47 when cornerback Jonathan Wilhite was flagged for pass interference. That set the Bulls up with a first down on the Auburn 29 and they pushed it in for a score three plays later.

Key stat: South Florida outrushed Auburn 94-27 in the first quarter.

The man: Kicker Wes Byrum, who hit on 3-of-4 field goal attempts last week, set a new high in his short career with a 49-yard field goal midway through the quarter which got Auburn on the board.

South Florida 14, Auburn 3

SECOND QUARTERKey moment: Robert Dunn returned a punt 24 yards to set the Tigers up at the South Florida 37. Auburn capped off an 8-play drive with a 3-yard touchdown pass from Brandon Cox to Gabe McKenzie, his second in two games.

Key stat: The Tigers picked up their running attack immensely, rushing for 80 yards in the quarter behind the efforts of Ben Tate and Mario Fannin.

The man: Fannin sparked the Tiger offense, rushing for 107 yards in the first half – and 80 in the second quarter – as the Tigers rebounded and took their first lead.

Auburn 17, South Florida 14

THIRD QUARTERKey moment: Auburn’s defense kept the Tigers in the game yet again, with a pair of sacks of Bulls quarterback Matt Grothe to force field goal attempts. Antoine Carter and Pat Sims had key sacks.

Key stat: Auburn’s offense managed a measly 42 yards offense in the quarter – 22 rushing and 20 passing. It also turned the ball over three times on fumbles.

The man: Auburn defensive tackle Sen’Derrick Marks blocked a Delbert Alvarado 37-yard field-goal attempt and Auburn escaped with its lead intact in the quarter after two other Alvarado misses.

Auburn 17, South Florida 14

FOURTH QUARTERKey moment: The Tigers came up with a third missed kick by Alvarado, but it wasn’t enough as the Bulls kicker finally made an 18-yarder with 55 seconds left to push the game to overtime.

Key stat: Auburn had minus-3 yards rushing from its running backs in the fourth quarter.

The man: Byrum hit a 46-yarder to give Auburn a 20-17 lead with 2:54 remaining in the game

Auburn 20, South Florida 20

OVERTIMEKey moment: Bryum hit a 39-yard field goal for the Tigers, but the Tiger defense gave up a corner route for the score.

Key stat: The Bulls were 1-for-1 on fourth-down conversions to keep the drive going.

The man: The Bulls’ Grothe completed a 14-yard, game-winning touchdown pass to Jessie Hester for the win.
