ATLANTA — Auburn senior DeWanna Bonner was named one of 12 finalists for the national player of the year, the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association announced Tuesday.
The candidates were selected by a vote of committee members comprised of basketball coaches, journalists and basketball administrators.
Bonner has already been named the SEC Player of the Year. She broke the Auburn career scoring record during the SEC tournament. She finished her career with 2,162 points, nearly 100 more than the former school record.
Bonner led Auburn to a 30-4 record in the 2008-09 season and its second NCAA tournament appearance in as many years. The Tigers also won the SEC regular-season title, Auburn’s first conference championship since 1989.
