From the Plains to the pros: Josh Bynes

Editor's note: Auburn has a rich history of sending players to the NFL. With that in mind, beat writer Ryan Black takes a look at each former Tiger that finds himself on an NFL roster (or should be once free agency and training camps shake out). The series will begin with those who have already been in the league for more than one season and conclude with the latest crop of players to land in the NFL, either through the draft or as an undrafted free agent.

Josh Bynes, Baltimore Ravens

Position: Linebacker

Drafted: Undrafted in 2011; signed by Ravens as an undrafted free agent

Career stats (through three seasons): 26 games played (nine starts) ; 79 tackles

2014 outlook: Things have gotten better for Bynes each year he's been in the league. In 2011, he appeared in only one game. In 2012, he upped that total to 10, including three starts. But last year was by far his best, playing in 15 games with six starts. Despite what could be considered a breakout year, however, his job on Baltimore's 53-man roster is far from a certainty. The Ravens return all nine linebackers from last season and added another one in last month's NFL draft by taking Alabama's C.J. Mosley with their first pick (No. 17 overall). Bynes is expected to battle Albert McClellan for the final linebacker spot on the roster.
