SEC media days: Auburn has league-high 13 players named to preseason all-SEC teams

HOOVER, Ala.Nick Marshall is the top quarterback in the Southeastern Conference entering the 2014 season.

That's the opinion of those that cover the league, as the media's preseason All-SEC teams were announced Thursday. Joining Marshall on the first team were three of his Auburn teammates: receiver Sammie Coates, center Reese Dismukes and defensive tackle Gabe Wright.

The Tigers were also well-represented on the other two All-SEC teams. On the second-team were tight end C.J. Uzomah, guard Alex Kozan and defensive back Robenson Therezie. Auburn had six players named to the third-team: running back Corey Grant, guard Chad Slade, defensive linemen Montravius Adams and Carl Lawson, linebacker Cassanova McKinzy and cornerback Jonathon Mincy.

Auburn's 13 total selections were the most of any team in the SEC.

  • The top vote-getters for this year's All-SEC teams were Alabama receiver Amari Cooper, Alabama running back T.J. Yeldon and Georgia running back Todd Gurley. All three were also voted to the preseason media team in 2013.
  • Since 2000, there has only been one unanimous selection to the media's preseason All-SEC team: Arkansas running back Darren McFadden received all 80 votes in 2007.
  • Alabama led the way with a league-high nine first-team selections. The Crimson Tide tied its own record in that category, as it also had nine first-team picks in 2011.
  • The preseason All-SEC teams are listed below.
