AUBURN, Ala. — Redshirt freshman Jimmy Hutchinson handled both of the Tigers' punts Saturday, averaging 42 yards per kick. Hutchinson lost the job to fellow redshirt freshman Daniel Carlson during fall camp, but has begun to see more playing time as the season has progressed.
Despite being the only player to punt Saturday, Auburn coach Gus Malzahn refused to say Hutchinson has taken over the starting job.
“I wouldn't say (he is the punter) full-time," he said, "but we're getting more and more confidence in him.”
For the season, Hutchinson has punted seven times for 279 yards, good for an average of 39.9 yards per attempt.
