AUBURN, Ala. — During the offseason and for the first few games of Auburn's 2014 campaign, defensive tackles Gabe Wright and Montravius Adams lined up at defensive end.
However, in recent weeks, Wright and Adams have stayed at tackle as the team continues to rotate other players on the edge.
Johnson wouldn't rule out a return to end for the two athletic tackles, but he said the depth down the middle is more of a concern at this point for Auburn’s front four.
“We've got them rotating in there at tackle,” Johnson said. “(Jeff) Whitaker’s been out the last two weeks, and we feel like that four-way rotation is more important to us.”
Auburn started the combination of Gimel President and DaVonte Lambert for the sixth straight game last Saturday and Johnson said he has confidence in the defensive end depth without moving Adams or Wright.
“We've got four ends right now that have been playing pretty consistent, so we haven’t moved them back out there,” Johnson said. “But it's a double whammy. If we move them out there, we’re losing some depth at tackle.”
