Auburn football: Alex Kozan, Carl Lawson held out of Saturday scrimmage

AUBURN, Ala. — While Auburn held its first scrimmage of the spring Saturday in Jordan-Hare Stadium, two expected starters remained on the sideline. According to Gus Malzahn, offensive lineman Alex Kozan (back) and defensive end Carl Lawson (left knee) were held out as each continues to rehab from injuries that forced them to miss all of the 2014 campaign.

"They have practiced," the coach said. "They've practiced quite a bit to this point."

When it came to Kozan specifically, Malzahn was confident the Colorado native would be able to return this fall without missing a beat.

"He's gone full speed against defensive guys. He's moved well pulling," Malzahn said of the player who was named a freshman All-American in 2013 after starting all 14 games at left guard for the SEC champion Tigers. "So far, so good. He says he feels good. That's definitely a positive."

Malzahn said aside from the aforementioned duo, every other player participated Saturday.
