Auburn football announced a pair of high-profile matchups Monday morning. The Tigers have scheduled a home-and-home series against Penn State for the 2021 and 2022 season.
It is the first time Auburn will play a Big Ten opponent during the regular season.
“This is another great opportunity for our players and fans to be part of something special,” Auburn athletic director Jay Jacobs said in a statement. “Bringing together elite programs rich in tradition is what college football is all about. We look forward to this home-and-home series with Penn State.”
Auburn will travel to State College on Sept. 18, 2021 and host the Nittany Lions at Jordan-Hare Stadium on Sept. 17, 2022. The programs last faced each other in the 2003 Capital One Bowl with Auburn edging out Penn State 13-9.
The announcement pushes back a previously schedule home-and-home series for 2020 and 2021 against California. An Auburn spokesperson confirmed the teams would now face each other on Sept. 9, 2023 at Cal and Sept. 7, 2024 at Jordan-Hare Stadium. The Tiger future non-conference power five opponents also includes Clemson (2017) and Oregon (2019).
