Alabama sweeps Vanderbilt


NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Alabama left hander Del Howell threw a complete game in Game 1 to give the Tide the win.

Howell picked up his fifth win. He struck out 10 Vanderbilt batters.

The Crimson Tide hit three home runs in Game 1 to clinch the series against No. 28 Vanderbilt.

Alabama’s Tyler White earned the win in Game 2.

Right fielder Kent Matthes hit his NCAA-leading 22nd home run in the first to get the Tide going 2-0. First baseman Wes Henderson and catcher Vin DiFazio went back-to-back with their home runs in the fifth.

In the second game, Bama was down 5-3 before the Tide scored four runs in the top of the sixth. Jake Smith and Kyle Moore hit home runs.
