Saban says Alabama's Cam Robinson should be fine
Alabama coach Nick Saban said left tackle Cam Robinson sprained his knee, but should be fine going forward.
Rumors swirled that Robinson suffered a more severe injury during the Crimson Tide's Saturday's practice, but Saban cleared things up on Sunday.
Robinson heard the rumors, as well. Robinson said he laughed when the talk centered around him possibly breaking a foot.
Robinson was a full participant in Sunday's open Fan Day practice.
"Those were just rumors, so I didn't feel the need to address them," Robinson said. "I knew I was fine. Just a little small injury."
Robinson said his left knee got rolled up during a play and that the injury isn't serious. However, if not for the protective knee brace he wears, Robinson said the training staff told him the injury could have been much more severe.
Last season, Robinson dealt with ankle and leg injuries for much of the year, but never missed a start. On Sunday, Saban praised Robinson for his ability to play through injuries.
Robinson said it's all about blocking out the pain.
"Something that coach preaches to us a lot is mental toughness, and I think that's big when you're working through injuries," Robinson said. "Our training staff is amazing. It takes mental toughness and a little bit of that magic they work in the training room.
"If you want to push through it bad enough, you'll be able to play through it."
Outside of Robinson, Saban also provided updates on three players with minor injuries:
Wide receiver Chris Black has a "twisted ankle" and is day-to-day. Black shouldn't miss more than another day or two. He was spotted wearing a black, non-contact jersey during Saturday's practice.
"I just got stepped on while running a route," Black said. "It's nothing serious. Just a day-to-day thing to see how it feels."
Saban said tight end Ty Flournoy-Smith also has a "twisted ankle."
Saban added that cornerback Marlon Humphrey "pulled a muscle" and will miss a few days.
