Bama WR Robert Foster out with shoulder injury

Alabama coach Nick Saban announced Monday that wide receiver Robert Foster is "going to be out" with a shoulder injury.

Foster suffered the injury in the second quarter of the Crimson Tide's 43-37 loss on Saturday.

"I didn't think this was going to be this big of a problem but he got a shoulder injury that will require shoulder surgery so he is out," Saban said.

Foster had two catches for 17 yards on Saturday. He has 10 catches for 116 yards and two touchdowns on the season.

Asked for a timetable on Foster's return, Saban wouldn't provide any specifics.

"Well he's having surgery," Saban said. "So unless he has a miraculous recovery, he's going to be out for a while. I'm not the doctor. I can't tell you that. He's out for a while."

Foster had developed into the Tide's top receiving threat on the perimeter. With Foster out, others will get opportunities.

"Calvin Ridley played a lot in the game and took his place and he has done a really nice job," Saban said. "We're going to give lots of opportunities to lots of guys, but there are going to be some young players who get the opportunities."

Along with young players, older guys like Richard Mullaney should see an higher amount of targets. Saban said the Tide needs to get ArDarius Stewart "playing with more consistency" while also providing an update on Cam Sims (knee).

"(Stewart) has the capability of making big plays and he has made some plays, but we certainly need some of our young players to show some progress so they can play," Saban said. "I think Cam Sims is probably more ready to come back and we're probably ready to give him some work as well."
