Tide’s Pruitt gets new deal for $1 million a year

Jeremy Pruitt is Alabama’s newest $1 million man.

The defensive coordinator was one of nine football assistants to receive new contracts when the University of Alabama Board of Trustees Compensation Committee approved amended contracts on Tuesday.

Pruitt was given a three-year contract that will pay him $1 million a year. The deal also includes a family membership to the North River Yacht Club in Tuscaloosa. Pruitt replaced former Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart who earned $1.5 million last season before leaving to take the head coaching job at Georgia.

Tosh Lupoi earned a new title, switching from outside linebackers coach to co-defensive coordinator. The promotion includes a three-year extension and an annual salary of $550,000, a $125,000 raise from last season.

Running backs and special teams coach Burton Burns also saw a big pay raise and will earn a annual salary of $475,000 over the next two years, up from $345,000.

Strength and conditioning Scott Cochran received a substantial pay raise and will earn an annual salary of $525,000 over the next three years, up from $420,000.

Other raises include wide receivers coach Billy Napier (two years, $350,000); offensive line coach Mario Cristobal (two years, $525,00); defensive line coach Karl Dunbar (two years, $ 275,000); offensive line coach Brent Key (two years, $350,000) and secondary coach Derrick Ansley (two years, $395,000).

Alabama women’s basketball coach Kristy Curry was also given a new contract. She will earn a base salary of $265,000 with a talent fee of $175,000 and an expense amount of $12,000 as part of a four-year contract.
