Alabama linebacker Thomas transferring to Northwest Mississippi Community College

Redshirt freshman linebacker Adonis Thomas has left Alabama and will be transferring to Northwest Mississippi Community College according to East Mississippi Community College head coach Buddy Stephens on Wednesday night.

According to Stephens, Thomas has already been on the Northwest C.C. campus for two weeks.

Thomas came to the Crimson Tide from Central Gwinnett High School in Lawrenceville, Ga as a four-star recruit last season. However, with Alabama having a multitude of talented players at the position already, he was not expected to see much playing time next season.

Thomas is the third Tide player to transfer this summer, with safety Shawn Burgess-Becker and defensive back Maurice Smith also leaving the program.

Alabama kickers named on awards watch lists

Alabama’s special teams picked up two preseason honors Thursday, as kicker Adam Griffith was named to the Lou Groza Award watch list, while punter JK Scott made the list for the Ray Guy Award.

The Lou Groza Award is presented to the nation’s top place-kicker, while the Ray Guy award goes to the country’s top punter.

Griffith, a senior, converted 23 of his 32 field goal attempts last season and was a perfect 62-for-62 on extra points. He also recorded a career-best 56 touchbacks on kickoffs. Griffith hit a career-long 55-yard field goal against LSU last season and was 2-for-2 with on field goals from 50 or more yards.

Scott, a junior, averaged 44.2 yards per punt over 70 punts last season. He also pinned his opposition inside its 20-yard line 25 times. Scott’s longest punt of the year, 59-yards, came during the Tide’s 29-15 win against Florida during the SEC championship game.
