UGA player’s bold prediction: New offense to be something ‘nobody’s ever seen before’

The hype machine around Georgia’s new offense is in full swing.

With new offensive coordinator Todd Monken and a change at starting quarterback, the Bulldog offense will look plenty different when the season kicks off Saturday at Arkansas. Meeting with reporters Monday, redshirt sophomore receiver Kearis Jackson offered the most optimistic outlook yet when asked what the team wanted the new identity to be.

“A new Georgia team that nobody’s ever seen before, that nobody would ever even thought of that they would be seeing this type of Georgia team,” Jackson said. “We just want to be able to come out and be explosive and just put points on the board every time we’re able to touch the ball.”

That lofty statement was made for a team that missed all of spring practice due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That time is normally critical for a team’s development for the following season, especially when a new offense is being installed.

However, Jackson believes the team has been able to make up for that. The period before fall camp, a time Jackson and head coach Kirby Smart have referred to as a “mini-camp,” helped catch the offense up when it comes to the particulars of Monken’s offense. Whether it be routes for receivers or pass protection assignments for offensive linemen, Jackson believes the offense is in a good spot.

“This week, we actually get to put it all together and go against another team instead of going against our savage defense every day,” Jackson said. “It’s time to go against somebody different. I’m pretty sure all of my teammates, including myself, are excited to be able to play a different opponent.”
