Georgia-Kentucky game moved, game time set

The Georgia-Kentucky men’s basketball game, which was postponed Friday night after an apparent tornado caused damage to the Georgia Dome, will be played at noon today.

Today’s semifinals, which were scheduled to be played at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., will be pushed back to tonight. Tennessee and Arkansas will play at 6 p.m., then Mississippi State will face the Georgia-Kentucky winner at 8:30 p.m.

Sunday’s championship game will be delayed for two hours until 3 p.m.

The need for the Georgia-Kentucky winner to play two games today was mandated by the NCAA.

‘’This format is based on an agreement between athletic directors and head coaches of the participating institutions after consultation with Tom O'Connor, chair of the Division I Men's Basketball Committee,’’ the SEC said in a release on secsports.com. ‘’O'Connor reaffirmed that since the league decides it automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament by its conference tournament champion, the competition must be completed prior to the announcement of the NCAA championship field.’’

The Georgia-Kentucky game and the rest of the Southeastern Conference tournament have been moved to Alexander Memorial Coliseum on the campus of Georgia Tech.

‘’Out of respect for public safety demands that are required in the aftermath of Friday's storms, access to the remaining games of the championship will be limited to student-athletes' family members, cheerleaders, bands and other credentialed individuals,’’ according to a release from the SEC.

The SEC has not announced plans for broadcast of the games today. However, they were originally scheduled to be on Raycom affiliates. During the regular season, that means either WRBL-3 or WLGA-66 in Columbus.

Friday night’s game would have been on FOXSN. Saturday’s games were scheduled to be on WRBL-3.
