ATHENS, Ga. — Joey Lewis hit two home runs, including a grand slam, to lead Georgia to a 13-2 win over Winthrop in Game 2 of a doubleheader Wednesday at Foley Field.
The win gave the fifth-ranked Bulldogs a split in the doubleheader as Winthrop won the first game 7-4.
Lewis tied his career high with five RBIs in the second game. Georgia finished with a season-high five home runs. Rich Poythress, Peter Verdin and Levi Hyams also homered for the Bulldogs (26-6).
Poythress drove in four runs and is now tied for ninth on Georgia’s career home runs (32) and RBI (155) lists.
Chase Hawkins (3-1) picked up the win, allowing just one run on five hits in five innings.
In the opener, Winthrop took advantage of four Georgia errors and scored five unearned runs.
