ATHENS - Former Georgia football player Chris Sanders, who was dismissed from the team last week, is set to enroll at Georgia Military College, according to multiple reports. Sanders will be doing so with the hope of getting back in the good graces of the Bulldog program and perhaps returning to the team.
GMC head coach Bert Williams could not be reached for comment on Friday. But earlier in the week he said he was considering taking one of the dismissed players, and indicated it could mean a return to Georgia for the player.
It has happened before: Akeem Hebron spent a year at GMC a few years ago, then returned to the Bulldogs.
“There have been players we’ve taken who have left there who have spent time here, gotten right, and either gone back, or if they don’t go back to Georgia, they move on to somewhere else and do well,” Williams said. “We try to work together when we can.”
Sanders was dismissed from the team along with two fellow freshmen, Nick Marshall and Sanford Seay, following a teammates' allegation of theft from a dorm room.
Marshall has since enrolled at Garden City Community College in Kansas.
Seay has not decided on his next move, according to his high school coach, Dean Fabrizio.
