While we're in a bit of downtime, let's get to know a bit more on the SEC's two newest teams.
A couple months ago, I had a Q&A with Dave Matter, the Missouri beat writer for the Columbia Tribune. Here's a link to that in case you missed it.
But it's a couple months later, so has anything changed? Matter joined my boss Daniel Shirley on the radio on Wednesday morning, providing an update on the status of injured QB James Franklin. You can listen to that interview here.
Then there's Texas A&M, the newest member of the SEC West. Robert Cessna, who covers the Aggies, also joined Shirley and his co-host Charles Olson on this morning's show, and you can listen to that interview here. Cessna talks about the excitement level of fans about joining the SEC, and new head coach Kevin Sumlin.
Missouri opens SEC play by hosting Georgia on Sept. 8.
Texas A&M inaugurates its membership the same day by hosting Florida.
Meanwhile, yes we are still waiting to hear about the future schedules. Last week Georgia athletics director Greg McGarity said he expected the scheduling plan for the next 12 years to be announced around Memorial Day. The SEC meetings begin the day after Memorial Day, so the new scheduling philosophy could be voted on and announced that week.
