Vince Dooley statement on Michael Adams' retirement

ATHENS - Vince Dooley famously had his falling out with Georgia president Michael Adams, who in 2004 declined to extend Dooley's tenure as athletics director. So it's no surprise that Dooley wasn't at Adams' retirement announcement on Thursday, exchanging hugs with his nemesis.

But Dooley did call me back when I left a message asking if he had anything to say. The longtime Georgia head football coach and A.D. had this to say:

"I commend President Adams on his retirement, his service and his contributions to the University of Georgia. I do believe it is time for a change. And I look forward to the Bulldog nation uniting under new leadership in the near future."

I followed by asking if Dooley had any new feelings after everything that happened.

"I don't need to have anything else to say right now," he said. "I've already said things in the book and everything else, I don't want to get into that."

Fair enough.
