Vegas is bullish on the Bulldogs

ATHENS - Let us begin this post with the usual stipulation that we pass along this information so as not to condone gambling on sports. Or, as Steve Spurrier always put it at press conferences, it's not about the betting, but it is interesting to know what the bettors are saying.

And they appear to like Georgia's chances in 2012.

The Bulldogs are an 8-1 bet to win the BCS championship this season, according to odds posted at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. (Yes, that's where I was staying this past weekend. And no, I did not take that bet, or any bet on a college event. That's where I draw the line, professionally.) Georgia is thus given the seventh-best chance to win the national title, with Alabama the favorite.

Meanwhile, the web site beyondthebets.com has posted odds for every SEC game this season. Here is how they rate each Georgia game:

AT MISSOURI: Georgia by 3

VS. VANDERBILT: Georgia by 17

VS. TENNESSEE: Georgia by 12

AT SOUTH CAROLINA: S. Carolina by 4

AT KENTUCKY: Georgia by 17.5

VS. FLORIDA: Georgia by 2

VS. OLE MISS: Georgia by 24.5

AT AUBURN: Georgia by 1.5

If the favorite wins every game, Georgia would win the SEC East again with a 7-1 record, followed by South Carolina (6-2), Florida (5-3), Tennessee (4-4), Missouri (2-6), Vanderbilt (2-6) and Kentucky (0-8).

The SEC West winner would also be a repeat: LSU is projected at 8-0, by virtue of being favored to beat Alabama (projected to be 7-1). So basically, the web site is projecting 2012 to look almost exactly like 2011.
