Harris County outlasts Carver in dramatic two-overtime thriller

Special to the Ledger-Enquirer\Darrell Roaden

The showdown between Class 5A’s Harris County and Class 4A’s Carver was one that took more than regulation than decide.

After being tied 33-33, both teams scored touchdowns but missed their extra-point attempts, forcing a second overtime. Carver took the first possession of the second extra session and scored a touchdown but failed in its two-point attempt.

Harris County had the win in sight and took advantage. Quarterback Davion Malone ran a play-action bootleg pass and found T.J Pass for the touchdown. The Tigers kicked the extra point to walk away with a one-point victory.

“I thought both teams played hard all night,” Harris County head coach Zac Howard said. “It was the ultimate back-and-forth game. We never panicked, never quit and never had self doubt. I’m just thankful we were lucky enough to squeak it out.”
