Chattahoochee Valley High School Football Rundown: Week 10
There’s no way to put this delicately: This weekend featured some bad high school football throughout the Chattahoochee Valley. In the 15 games that did not feature two teams in the Rundown, the local teams went 4-11.
There was not much movement in the rankings, but there is now a clear division between the teams that should contend down the stretch and those that look prepared to coast. You’ll find that line of demarcation right after the 10th slot in the standings:
Here is the latest Rundown. All upcoming games are on Friday unless otherwise indicated:
1. Central Record: 7-0 (4-0) Last Week: W 55-18 vs Jeff Davis This Week: at Lee-Montgomery, 12 p.m. Saturday
2. Manchester Record: 8-0 (5-0) Last Week: W 24-16 vs Brookstone This Week: Bye Week
3. Northside Record: 6-1 (3-1) Last Week: W 31-21 vs Hardaway This Week: vs Shaw (Kinnett Stadium), 7 p.m. Thursday
4. Hardaway Record: 3-4 (2-2) Last Week: L 31-21 vs Northside This Week: vs Americus-Sumter (Memorial Stadium), 7 p.m. Thursday
Moral victories mean little, but there were plenty of positives to take from the showdown against Northside. Marco Lee might be the best running back in the Valley, and he showed it with his 117 rushing yards in the first half. Quarterback Dominique Ford also did a good job of finding multiple receivers in the passing game. Thursday’s game against Americus-Sumter will be must-watch football.
5. Marion County Record: 7-1 (4-1) Last Week: W 49-12 at Central-Talbotton This Week: Bye Week
6. Spencer Record: 4-3 (1-1) Last Week: L 17-13 at Temple This Week: vs Lamar County (Kinnett Stadium), 7:30 p.m.
7. Brookstone Record: 5-3 (3-2) Last Week: L 24-16 at Manchester This Week: Bye Week
Though I am pretty down on the local teams as a whole, the Cougars deserve a ton of credit for keeping it close with Manchester. The Blue Devils have blown out nearly every opponent this year, but Brookstone hung tight on the road. With players like Richard Hill and Jeremiah Burgess constantly making plays, the Cougars remain a dangerous team.
8. Glenwood Record: 5-4 (2-2) Last Week: W 34-6 vs Bessemer Academy This Week: at Springwood, 8 p.m.
9. Chattahoochee County Record: 4-3 (4-2) Last Week: W 43-0 vs Calhoun County This Week: at Terrell County, 7:30 p.m.
10. Harris County Record: 3-4 (0-1) Last Week: L 34-8 at Warner Robins This Week: vs Veterans, 7:30 p.m.
11. Carver Record: 2-5 (2-2) Last Week: L 13-24 vs Cairo This Week: vs Columbus (Memorial Stadium), 7:30 p.m.
Carver’s defense did all it could in the second half Friday, but an inaccurate passing game coupled with two second-half turnovers left the Tigers with another hard-to-swallow loss. At this point, it’s hard to see the offense providing a meaningful resurgence in the final three regular season games.
12. Columbus Record: 2-5 (1-3) Last Week: L 26-13 vs Westover This Week: vs Carver (Memorial Stadium), 7:30 p.m.
13. Calvary Christian Record: 3-5 (2-1) Last Week: L 38-30 Creekside Christian Academy This Week: at Griffin Christian
14. Jordan Record: 1-6 (0-2) Last Week: L 28-21 at Lamar County This Week: at Heard County, 7:30 p.m.
15. Russell County Record: 2-6 (1-4) Last Week: L 24-6 vs Northview This Week: Bye Week
16. Kendrick Record: 1-6 (1-2) Last Week: L 35-6 vs Pike County This Week: at Peach County, 7:30 p.m.
17. Shaw Record: 1-6 (0-4) Last Week: L 31-0 at Americus-Sumter This Week: vs Northside (Kinnett Stadium), 7:30 p.m.
18. Pacelli Record: 0-8 (0-5) Last Week: L 46-6 vs Greenville This Week: Bye Week
19. Smiths Station Record: 0-7 (0-5) Last Week: L 42-8 vs Enterprise This Week: vs Auburn, 8 p.m.
