Kendrick High School athletic director Collins Jones confirmed Tuesday that Cedric Ware will not return as Cherokees head football coach in 2018.

Ware was the Cherokees head coach for three seasons, going 4-26 during that time. Kendrick went 1-9 in 2017, with the lone win being a 34-31 victory over Rutland that ended Kendrick’s 17-game losing streak.

Ware came to Kendrick from Aaron Cohn Middle School, where he was the head football coach in 2013 and 2014. The Hardaway alum also played for the Columbus Lions and was an assistant coach at Opelika High School and Fort Middle School.

Jones said a search for a new head coach will begin promptly.

“We have to go through the necessary process mandated by this system,” Jones said. “We’re looking for a football coach that knows the game and is very knowledgeable of the game for his replacement.”
