Smiths Station claims victory in Smiths Station Invitational

The Smiths Station Panthers proved there was no place like home Saturday when they won the Smiths Station Invitational wrestling tournament.

The Panthers ended the weekend well, with seven wrestlers making the finals in their respective weight classes. Smiths Station’s Tony Batiz and Dillon Luttrell ultimately won their finals matches in the 113- and 138-pound weight classes.

Smiths Station proved to be the top team in a 17-team tournament which featured several other local schools. Among them was Northside, which claimed a fifth-place team finish thanks in part to John Jones’ victory in the 120-pound finals, and Chattahoochee County, which came in 10th due partly to Tyrese Burris-Lucas’ victory in the 182-pound finals.
