Two coaches fired after fights erupt among team members, Muscogee school district says
Two Muscogee County School District coaches have been fired following fights among team members.
In a telephone interview Friday morning, clarifying her earlier email, MCSD communications director Kimberly Wright told the Ledger-Enquirer that two assistant football coaches at Carver High School have been “relieved of their duties pending a thorough investigation.”
Wright didn’t disclose the name of the coaches. She also didn’t answer before publication the L-E’s additional questions about the incident.
WTVM reported Thursday night that three fights erupted among Carver football team members during their Oct. 27 game at Dougherty County, according to Dougherty County School System police chief Troy Conley.
The first fight was between a Carver assistant coach and the father of another Carver assistant coach.
The second fight was between those two coaches in the locker room.
The third fight was a “brawl” among players and one of those coaches, according to WTVM.
Although WTVM reported the names of the assistant coaches involved in the fights, the Ledger-Enquirer won’t identify them until we can obtain independent verification. The L-E wasn’t able to reach Conley or any other Dougherty County official before publication.
WTVM also reported that four Carver football players faced a disciplinary tribunal last week, but the result of that hearing wasn’t available. Wright didn’t answer before publication the L-E’s questions about the status of those players.
