Akilah Shelton of Hardaway is the Ledger-Enquirer High School Girls Athlete of the Week, based on our online poll.

Shelton is a junior forward on Hardaway’s basketball team. She averaged 16 points and 10 rebounds in the seven games before she was nominated. She also has a 4.2 grade-point average in the International Baccalaureate program.

We invited the athletics director at each public and private high school in Muscogee County, Harris County, Chattahoochee County, Phenix City, Russell County and Smiths Station to nominate a female athlete for this poll.

Among this week’s four nominees, Shelton received 51% of the 72,508 votes from our readers. Voting started Monday and ended at noon Friday. The poll has no limit on the number of times a person can vote. Here are the complete final results:
