Hoover boys, girls sweep races at Smiths Station

Hoover High swept both the boys and girls cross country races at the Panther Invitational on Saturday in Smiths Station, Ala.

Hoover’s Patrick McGregor won the boys race in 15 minutes, 35 seconds, five seconds ahead of Columbus High’s Charlie Sparks.

Smiths Station finished second in the boys race and fourth in the girls. Other local teams in the boys large school race were Columbus sixth, Shaw eighth, Northside ninth and Russell County 11th.

In the small school division, Chris Jacobs of Pacelli finished second to Gabe Mitchell of Providence. The Brookstone boys won the division with Pacelli finishing fourth.

Top local finisher in the girls race in the large school division was Alicia Daniels of Smiths Station. She finished 11th in 20:53. Other local schools were Columbus fifth, Northside sixth and LaGrange seventh.
