Bob Sawyer, an original member of the Smiths Station City Council when the city was incorporated, is retiring at the end of the current term.
Sawyer, 75, is the owner/operator of Sawyer's Mobile Home Estates on Lee Road 246 in Smiths Station.
"I've hit that three-quarters century mark and it's time to move on to some oter things," the Place 5 councilman said. "I've got this business and I want to do some traveling now and vacation when I can," the Place 5 councilman said.
Sawyer said the council has accomplished a lot since incorporation in 2001. "Its been a cool, get-along council. We've always gotten along together," he said. "When we've had disagreements we've been able to talk them out."
