Smiths Station to observe tax holiday in August

Smiths Station businesses will be observing the tax holiday. The city council voted earlier this month to participate in the state-wide holiday Aug. 1-3.

The holiday is designed to give family's preparing for the beginning of the new school year a break on costs when making purchases. Sales tax is not added to items with school applications, from supplies to clothing to computers.

The Alabama Legislature sets the date for the holiday, but governments make their own determination whether to participate. Smiths Station has participated in each year Alabama has had the holiday.
