WRESTLER OF THE YEAR JOEY DENOVA HARRIS COUNTYClass: JuniorWeight class: 130Stats/comments: A two-time state champion in two different weight classes while attending two different schools. DeNova transferred from Columbus High School to Harris County this year, but his excellence on the mat continued. He went 45-2 this year, captured the city championship and added a state title at 130 pounds to the 125-pound title he won last year. He finished third in the state as a freshman, continuing his run as one of the sports most decorated athletes in this area.

ABOUBOCCAR DIOUBATE SPENCERClass: Junior Weight class: 193 Stats/comments: Finished first in the Pacelli Invitational, the city tournament, and the Region 5-AA tournament and second in the Hardaway Invitational, Dioubate finished his season with a No. 5 state finish. He was 40-7.

QUINTIN NOEL SPENCERClass: SophomoreWeight class: 112Stats/comments: Noel captured first place in the Pacelli Invitational, the city tournament, and the area tournament with victories over all the other 112 grapplers in the city. He finished sixth in the sectionals and qualified for the state. He was 37-9 overall for the season.

ANTHONY GREEN SMITHS STATIONClass: JuniorWeight class: 112Stats/comments: Green had an excellent year for Smiths Station, defeating LaGrange, Troup, Shaw and Chattahoochee County with pins while being named Most Outstanding Wrestler in the Panther Duals. He finished eighth in the state and 48-7.

MONTANA BAHRY NORTHSIDEClass: Senior. Weight class: 119. Stats/comments: Bahry took first place in the Hardaway Invitational, city tournamament, Region 2-AAA, AAA sectionals and finished fifth in the state and 38-5 overall.

CORNELIUS JOHNSON SPENCERClass: Senior Weight class: 125 Stats/comments: A multi-year All-Bi-City selection, Johnson captured first place in the Pacelli Invitational and the area tournament. He was a state qualifier and went 34-13 overall.AARON BOYETTE HARRIS COUNTYClass: SeniorWeight class: 135Stats/comments: Boyette combined with Denova and Michael Boyette to form a solid core for the Tiger wrestling team. He is a two-time champion in the city tournament and a state tournament qualifier, finishing sixth in his class. His

ZACK BELFLOWERS PACELLIClass: Senior Weight class: 140 Stats/comments: Belflowers finished fifth in the state in Class A after a season where he wrestled in one of the most competitive weight classes in local schools.

CHRIS GRIER COLUMBUSClass: Junior Weight class: 140 Stats/comments: Grier captured the city championship at 140 in a competitive weight class that included JP Dockter of Northside and Belflowers. He finished the year at 48-6.

JACOB TRAMMELL HARDAWAYClass: Senior Weight class: 145 Stats/comments: Dominated his class locally with firstplace finishes in the Hardaway Invitational, the Pacelli Invitational, the city tournament, and Area 1-AAAA. Trammell finished fourth in the state.

MARCUS SHELTON COLUMBUS : Weight class: 152 Stats/comments: Shelton captured the city championship and the area championship among his 53 victories in 60 matches. He also won the area championship and qualified for the state.

JEREMIAH HENDERSON HARDAWAYClass: SeniorWeight class: 160Stats/comments: Henderson had a 36-7 record and took first place in the Hardaway Invitational, Pacelli Invitational, the city tournament, and the area tournament. He finished fourth in the state tournament competition.

ROCK GARDNER COLUMBUSClass: Senior Weight class: 171 Stats/comments: Gardner qualified for the state in a year where he went 49-7 and took a city championship for the Blue Devils. He earned a fifth-place finish in the state.

TRACY JEWETT HARDAWAYClass: Junior Weight class: 189 Stats/comments: Jewett took first place across the board in the top local wrestling competitions, including the Hardaway Invitational, Pacelli, city and area. He finished the year with a 37-6 record.

KENDELL HOUSTON JORDANClass: Senior Weight class: 189 Stats/comments: Houston finished second in the Hardaway, Pacelli and city tournaments and qualified for the state in his weight class.

BRIAN DAVIS SPENCERClass: Senior Weight class: 215 Stats/comments: Davis took top honors in his weight class at Callaway, Pacelli (heavyweight), Alexander, the city tournament, the area tournament and sectionals, qualifying for state. He finished the year with 50-4.

IAN WALKER COLUMBUSClass: Junior Weight class: Heavyweight Stats/comments: Walker won 42 of 50 matches in 2008-09, including the city tournament.

COACH OF THE YEAR HUNTER JACKSON HARDAWAYStats/comments: The Hawks went 22-2, defeating every team in town with the exception of Columbus who they did not wrestle. Jackson’s team took top eight in the state along the way.
