The Columbus softball team defeated Heritage-Catoosa 1-0 on Friday evening at South Commons to advance to the Class AAA state championship round.
Blue Devils pitcher Chandler Padgett picked up her third victory in two days, allowing one hit and walking two while striking out eight and extending her Elite Eight scoreless inning streak to 21.
Columbus’ Amanda Stucky got on with a third-inning single and moved to third on an Alexis Jones double to center field. Padgett went to first on a walk to load the bases, and Daniella Glover batted in Stucky with a bunt that landed just in front of the batter’s box.
“I’m still in shock,” Stucky said after the game. “At first I thought (we could get to the finals). But with every game we win I believe more and more we can go all the way.”
