Northside softball defeats Heritage-Catoosa; will face Columbus for state title

The Northside softball team defeated Heritage-Catoosa 2-0 on Saturday morning to set up a showdown with Columbus for the GHSA Class AAA championship at 11:30 a.m.

Northside’s Karson King hit the first pitch of the game down the left-field line, stole second and moved to third on Casey Googe single to center field. King came home on a Kristen Qualls sacrifice fly to deep center field, putting the Patriots ahead 1-0.

The Patriots held the lead through the next five innings and went ahead 2-0 in the top of the seventh inning when Haley Elver put a two-out double to deep left field and then scored on a Haley Love single to right field.

Love struck out 10, including two in the bottom of the seventh inning, and allowed four hits. The Patriots were error free.
