Charles Flowers has been selected as the next Troup football coach, Troup principal Michael Lehr confirmed Thursday.
Flowers, a Troup County native, is a teacher at Doughtery but the termination of his contract will be voted on at the next district school board meeting, Lehr said. Once Flowers is free of his contract he will be voted on by the Troup County school board and, if approved, take over at Troup. Flowers coached Dougherty's football team the previous three seasons, finishing 13-17.
Flowers has served as football coach at Shaw, where he won a state championship in 2000, and was the Muscogee County School District system-wide athletic director. If approved, he will replace Bubba Jeter, who announced his retirement from Troup in December.
