The winner of the Ledger-Enquirer High School Girls Athlete of the Week poll is . . .

Angel McDaniel
Angel McDaniel Russell County High School

Angel McDaniel of Russell County is the Ledger-Enquirer High School Girls Athlete of the Week, based on our online poll.

McDaniel is a senor outside hitter on Russell County’s volleyball team. She helped lead the Warriors to a sweep of Spencer in their season opener. After knee surgery, she came back “full force through diligence and determination,” said coach Alana Spiece. “Her perseverance and leadership is well known by her teammates as well as throughout her school.”

We invited the athletics director at each public and private high school in Muscogee County, Harris County, Chattahoochee County, Phenix City, Russell County and Smiths Station to nominate a female athlete for this poll.

Among this week’s eight nominees, McDaniel received 39% of the 21,848 votes from our readers. Voting started Monday and ended at noon Friday. The poll has no limit on the number of times a person can vote. Here are the complete final results:

  • Angel McDaniel, Russell County volleyball: 39%
  • Kendall Gumm, Calvary Christian softball: 24%
  • Jabria Brown, Shaw cheerleading: 12%
  • Robin Mitchell, Kendrick volleyball: 12%
  • Kyndal Black, Pacelli cheerleading: 7%
  • Effie Ward, Harris County cross country: 3%
  • Carsyn Galligan, Brookstone volleyball: 3%
  • Rorie Dunbar, Glenwood volleyball: 1%
