McKenzie Word of Russell County is the Ledger-Enquirer High School Girls Athlete of the Week, based on our online poll.

Word is a sophomore linebacker and wide receiver on the Russell County flag football team. She made six tackles and returned an interception 73 yards for a touchdown against Booker T. Washington, and she produced six tackles plus three receptions for 55 yards and a touchdown against Auburn.

We invited the athletics director at each public and private high school in Muscogee County, Harris County, Chattahoochee County, Phenix City, Russell County and Smiths Station to nominate a female athlete for this poll.

Among this week’s four nominees, Word received 50% of the 16,014 votes from our readers. Voting started Tuesday and ended at noon Friday. The poll has no limit on the number of times a person can vote. Here are the complete final results:
