Two former local high school standouts signed their baseball contracts recently.
Justin Ellison (Hardaway) signed with the Atlanta Braves on Saturday after being drafted by the team in the 12th round of the Major League Baseball draft last week.
Josh Lester (Columbus High) signed with the Detroit Tigers on Monday after being taken in the 13th round.
Lester tweeted that he was unsure where the Tigers would send him. He also tweeted that he was getting a physical on Monday.
Lester hit .280 this past season as Missouri's third baseman. He led the team in slugging percentage (.436), RBIs (42) and home runs (7).Lester was a member of three straight state championship teams at Columbus High.
Ellison played the past two seasons with Western Oklahoma State. He played both center field and right field.
The Braves drafted Ellison as a center fielder.
Ellison said he expects to find out where the Braves will send him Wednesday.
The amounts of the signing bonuses for Ellison and Lester were not available.
Meanwhile Rock Rucker (Russell County) said he would sign with the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday. Rucker, who was drafted in the 20th round, said he completed all of his tests on Monday.
