Central High can officially prepare itself for a month’s worth of hype heading into the 2015 football season.
NationalHSFootball.com ranked the Red Devils third in the state among all classifications on Tuesday, putting them just one spot behind defending Class 7A champion Hoover. Defending Class 6A champ Clay-Chalkville became the first team other than Hoover to top the Alabama preseason top 10 since 2011.
In addition to the lofty ranking, NationalHSFootball analyst Dallas Jackson commented that some think Central may be the top team in the state and that the defense may be the state’s best unit.
Central, of course, is led on defense by four-star junior Markail Benton, three-star Walter Pritchett, three-star junior Karon Delince and Auburn commit John Broussard, among others.
“If there is a team to look out for in making a major run — potentially to the Top 25 of the HSFB100 it is (Central).”
Central participated in the Southeastern 7-on-7 Championship this past weekend in Dalton, Ga. While the Red Devils didn’t finish first overall, they were able to win their pool of eight teams on Saturday.
The rest of Alabama’s preseason top 10 is, in order, Spanish Fort, Hewitt-Trussville, Prattville, Opelika, Carver-Montgomery, McAdory-McCalla and St. Paul’s-Mobile.
