Smiths Station High School will have a new head football coach next season, multiple media outlets reported.

WRBL and WTVM reported Wednesday that Bryant Garrison won’t return to the position next year.

The Ledger-Enquirer has requested more information from the school.

Garrison said in a text message Wednesday that he wasn’t available to comment. SSHS Principal Adam Johnson didn’t reply to a phone call or an email Thursday requesting comment before publication.

The Panthers, who play in the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s highest classification (7A), went 1-19 in two seasons under Garrison, including 0-10 this year. They were outscored 436-101 in 2023 and 418-63 in 2024.

Garrison has one other season of head football coaching experience in AHSAA. At Class 4A Slocomb, his team went 5-5 in 2022.

His predecessor at SSHS, Mike Glisson, led the Panthers to a 15-35 record from 2018-22. They went 1-9 in 2022.

SSHS hasn’t reached the state football playoffs since 2013.
