Pearson Pettit is the Ledger-Enquirer High School Girls Fall Sports Athlete of the Year in the Columbus area, based on our online poll.
As a senior wide receiver and defensive back on the Harris County High School flag football team, Pearson produced 116 receptions (tied for third in the state), 1,688 receiving yards (second in the state), 29 touchdown receptions (tied for second in the state), 22 conversions (first in the state) and 196 total points (first in the state and 39th in the nation).
Coach Michael Kinsey said Pearson was a consistent leader on and off the field. She helped the Tigers win the Georgia High School Association Division 1 state championship.
The winners of each Ledger-Enquirer High School Girls Athlete of the Week poll during the 2025 fall sports season were eligible to be nominated by an official from their school.
Voting was open from Dec. 22 to Jan. 2 at noon. Participants in the poll could vote as many times as they want. They didn’t have to be a subscriber to vote, but subscribers could vote more often.
Among this poll’s 11 nominees, Pearson received 64% of the 1,819 votes. Here are the complete final results:
- Pearson Pettit, Harris County flag football senior WR, 1,170 votes, 64%: 116 rec (tied 3rd in state), 1,688 rec yards (2nd in state), 20 rec TDs- 29 (tied 2nd in state), 22 conversions (1st in state), 196 total points (1st in State; 39th nation). - Allie Southerland, Harris County volleyball senior OH/RS, 593 votes, 33%: 178 kills, 575 A Att, 188 hit %, 28 aces, 95.7 S%, 2.10 S rtg, 200 digs, 16 blocks. Coach Kasey Mobley said her leadership will be missed next year.
- Shur’Kiyah “KK” Jackson, Pacelli flag football senior WR/DB, 20 votes, 1%: GIAA Player of the Year, All-Chattahoochee Valley First Team, Max Preps National Player of the Week. Led Pacelli to 4th straight state championship as two-way star player. Ranked 2nd in state in total TDs (32), 3rd in receiving yards (1,515) and 7th in total points (148).
- Brooke Norred, Smiths Station flag football junior QB, 13 votes, 1%: 290-of-478 passing for 3,411 yards and 57 TD, plus 3 rushing TD.
- Anna Do, Pacelli volleyball senior setter, 9 votes: GIAA Region and State Player of the Year. All-Chattahoochee Valley First Team. Most assists in region, surpassing 3,000 in career. Ranked in pop 20% of setters for assists in nation and 2nd in state.
- Ivy McCormick, Harris County softball senior 3B, 6 votes: .436 BA, 48 H, 12 2B, 2 HR, 32 RBI, 29 R. 1st-Team All-Region, 2nd-Team All-State. Signed to play at Columbus State University.
- Korbyn Missildine, Smiths Station flag football senior WR, 3 votes: 69 catches for 805 yards and 17 TD.
- Reagan Thomas, Smiths Station flag football freshman WR/S, 3 votes: 69 catches for 838 yards and 11 TD.
- Isa Morales, Pacelli senior, head student athletic trainer, 2 votes: “Leading with dedication, reliability, and excellence,” Pacelli athletic trainer McKenzie Grier said in an email to the L-E. “She maintains a 3.0+ GPA, never misses a practice or game, and inspires others through her passion for sports medicine and leadership.”
- Jada Flournoy, Russell County flag football 8th-grade ATH, 0 votes: 51 receptions, 1,033 yards, 15 TD, 62 tackles, 9 sacks, 6 PBU, 6 INT. “Jada went from just a defensive back in her first year as a 7th-grader to leading the way on both sides of the ball playing multiple positions and doing any and everything her coaches asked her to do,” coach Mori Thomas said in an email to the L-E. “The most important thing though is Jada is great kid that comes from a great family and excels in the classroom.”
- Alazia Marshall, Russell County cheerleading senior, 0 votes: “Dependable side base for multiple seasons, but this year she stepped into the backspot position when the team needed her most, and she has truly shined,” coach Akeshia Valrie said in an email to the L-E. “Transitioning into one of the most physically demanding and high-responsibility roles in cheer, Alazia brought strength, focus, and confidence to every stunt. As a backspot, she plays a vital role in lifting, stabilizing, and protecting the flyer, and her consistency has directly contributed to the team’s success and safety. Beyond the stunt group, Alazia leads with quiet confidence, a relentless work ethic, and a team-first mindset. Her willingness to step up without hesitation and excel under pressure makes her more tha n deserving of this nomination.”
