The Ledger-Enquirer High School Athlete of the Week poll winner is . . .
Beatrice Suomie is the Ledger-Enquirer High School Athlete of the Week, based on our online poll.
As a senior on the Jordan Vocational High School girls wrestling team, Beatrice won her second straight Georgia High School Association state championship in the 190-pound weight class. And she has a 3.6 grade-point average as a dual-enrollment student.
“There are only 27 credits needed for graduation here at Jordan, and she will finish with 35 in May,” Jordan principal Ryan Hutson told the L-E in an email. “She is the very epitome of a student-athlete and deserves to be recognized for her hard work, discipline, success on the mat and in the classroom, and is quite possibly the most humble young lady you will ever meet.”
We invited the athletics director at each public and private high school in Muscogee County, Harris County, Chattahoochee County, Phenix City, Russell County and Smiths Station to nominate students for this poll.
Among this week’s two nominees, Beatrice received 75% of the 21 votes from our readers. Voting started Tuesday and ended at noon Friday. The poll has no limit on the number of times a person can vote. Here are the complete final results:
