Conner Cox is the Ledger-Enquirer High School Boys Athlete of the Week, based on our online poll.

The junior shortstop and pitcher on the Russell County High School baseball team went 4 for 5 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored to lead the Warriors in their 4-3 win over Calvary Christian School to open the season.

Cox scored the winning run on a passed ball in the bottom of the ninth inning. He also closed the game by pitching the final four innings, allowing two runs on one hit while striking out nine.

We invited the athletic directors at each public and private high school in Muscogee County, Harris County, Chattahoochee County, Phenix City, Russell County and Smiths Station to nominate a student for this poll.

Among this week’s three nominees, Cox received 74% of the 6,851 votes from our readers. Voting started Monday and ended at noon Friday. The poll has no limit on the number of times a person can vote. Here are the complete final results:
