Cedric Ware era begins with a win for Kendrick

The Cedric Ware era at Kendrick started on a victorious note Friday night.

The Cherokees blanked Stewart County 31-0.

The defense scored 10 of the points as Navy Harris returned an interception for a touchdown. The defense also recorded a pair of safeties.

Kendrick also got rushing touchdowns from William Walker, Walter Boze and Keshon Willis.

Zavier Clark made 3 of 4 PATs.

Ware took over for the Jerry Dukes as head coach at Kendrick. Dukes turned around the Kendrick program in his seven seasons, going 22-51.

After winning just five games in his first four seasons, Dukes went 17-16 in the last three.

Stewart County has lost 21 straight, all 10 last year and the season before. Their last win was a 12-6 victory over Calhoun County to close out a 1-9 season in 2012.

Kendrick will face Northside on Thusrday at Kinnett Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
