Columbus goes 4-1 in Juanita Boddie volleyball tourney; Northside wins Silver Bracket
HOOVER, Ala. -- Shardonee Hayes and Tatyana Wyatt combined for 71 kills to lead Columbus to a 4-1 record and a tie for fifth place in the Gold Bracket of the Juanita Boddie Tournament this weekend.
The Lady Blue Devils (14-3) took pool wins in straight sets over Thompson, Buckhorn and Randolph. Then in the Gold Bracket, Columbus defeated Guntersville before losing to highly regarded Mountain Brook.
Madison Zeller had 19 kills. Skylar Blackmon had 40 digs and Madison Fleming recorded 91 assists in the two-day tournament.
Columbus returns to action Thursday at McIntosh at 6 p.m.Friday at Hoover, Ala.

NORTHSIDE WINS SILVER BRACKET
HOOVER, Ala. -- After tough going in pool play, Northside rallied for four straight wins Saturday to win the Silver Bracket in the Juanita Boddie Tournament.
Northside (12-9) lost its opening match Saturday to Vestavia Hills but then took the last five matches win the consolation bracket.
Morganne Harper had 113 assists and Caitlyn Jake had 53 kills on the day.
The last four matches went three sets, with Northside defeating Bob Jones 2-1 in the final.
Northside hosts Carver and Hardaway Sept. 8.Saturday at Hoover, Ala.
