Edgewood blanks Glenwood
ELMORE, Ala. -- Edgewood quarterback Nathan Rourke was a one-man wrecking crew as he passed for four touchdowns and ran for another as the Wildcats rolled to their third win of the season by a 61-0 score over Glenwood Friday night.
Rourke passed for two touchdowns in both the first and second quarters as well as got loose on a TD run to lead the Wildcat offense. He hit Jackson Tate for a 55-yard pass with only a minute gone in the first period and five minutes later scored on a run of the same length of 55 yards and the rout was on.
Before halftime, the score was 40-0 and that allowed for a running clock for the second half.
Rourke finished with 234 yards passing, all in the first half and 60 yards rushing total on seven carries as he was sacked twice by the Glenwood defense. He hit Tate twice as he scored again on a 27-yard pass and also Hit Maurice Young and Kelvin Lucky on passing TD's. Tyler Price had two rushing TD's for the Wildcats, one in each half.
The longest scoring play was by backup David Poole on a 65-yard run in the fourth.
The Glenwood offense, which was so effective in their first game, had difficulties holding onto the football as they fumbled five times, losing three and setting up short fields for the Wildcats.
In addition, running back Latavious Calhoun, who ran for over 100 yards and two touchdowns last week, was lost early in the first quarter with a serious arm injury after carrying only three times for 10 yards. He was replaced in the lineup by Stephen Blocker and David Lacey as the Gators amassed 143 yards rushing but could not dent the scoreboard. Blocker led the team with 39 yards and quarterback Carrington Huddleston had 38.
