Northside ahead when game at Westover cancelled by lightning

ALBANY, Ga. -- Thursday night's Northside at Westover contest at Hugh Mills Stadium was cancelled due to lightning. The two teams had almost finished the first half when lightning halted play with Northside leading 10-0.

The delay lasted nearly two hours before the game was cancelled.

The matchup was a non-region game and will not be made up.

In the little bit of game that was played, Westover struggled to sustain drives. It went three and out on five of six drives in the first half.

The other drive ended when quarterback Emory McKenzie fumbled, giving Northside possession at the Westover 35-yard line.

Northside got on the board on its second drive of the game when Nathan Robertson nailed a 42-yard field goal.

After recovering the McKenzie fumble, Northside running back Kalan Watts ran it in from the 2-yard line to make the score 10-0.

The Westover defense looked strong for most of the first half. They allowed a field goal and touchdown, recorded an interception off and came close to forcing a safety.

The interception came on Northside's first play of the second quarter. Quarterback Levi Dunn threw a ball into double coverage and was picked by Westover defensive back Travionte Brown.

The lightning stoppage came with 4:24 left in the second quarter.
