Central uses big third quarter to score win over Lee
MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Quan Weaver threw for a touchdown and ran for another in the third quarter as Central beat R.E. Lee 39-20 on Thursday night at the Cramton Bowl.
The Red Devils are now 3-1 overall and 2-0 Class 7A Region 2. R.E. Lee is 2-2 and 0-2.
The teams were tied at 7-7 at halftime. But Central took control of the game with 20 points in the third quarter.
Weaver hit Jamal Couch with a 33-yard touchdown pass to give Central a 14-7 lead.
The Central defense got on the scoreboard next when it recovered a fumble in the end zone for a 21-7 lead.
Weaver scored Central's third TD of the quarter on a run, giving Central a 27-7 lead.
R.E. Lee scored on a TD pass in the fourth quarter to climb to within 13, 27-14.
Central recovered the onside kick and drove for a touchdown. Carson finished the drive for a score and a 33-14 lead.
After stopping Lee again, Central scored on a Jamaar Spivey run for a 39-14 lead.
Central took the kickoff to start the game and drove for a touchdown. Jaxton Carson finished the drive with a 6-yard run with 9:09 left in the first quarter.
Central hosts Prattville on Sept. 18 at Garrett-Harrison Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m.
