High school football: Closer look at Friday's games
NORTHSIDE VS. UPSON-LEE
When: 7:30 p.m.
Where: Kinnett Stadium
Records: Northside 1-1. Upson-Lee 2-0.
Last week: Northside's game at Westover was cancelled due to lighting. The Patriots were leading 10-7 when the game was stopped in the second quarter. Upson-Lee beat Northeast-Macon 41-0.
Series: Upson-Lee leads 1-0 after the 21-13 victory last season.
You need to know: Northside opened the season with a 35-0 win over Kendrick before losing 21-0 to Spencer. Upson-Lee has yet to allow a point this season, shutting out Pike County 37-0 and Northeast 41-0. Upson-Lee is coached by former Harris County coach Tommy Parks.
CARVER AT TROUP
When: 7:30 p.m.
Where: Callaway Stadium, LaGrange, Ga.
Records: Carver 2-1. Troup 0-3.
Last week: Carver was idle. Troup lost 38-13 to Harris County.
Series: Carver leads 7-3 with five straight wins, including 43-41 last season.
You need to know: Carver opened with wins over Carver-Atlanta (28-24) and Spencer (21-7) before losing 51-20 two weeks ago to Creekside. Troup has been outscored 129-26. Former Manchester coach Tanner Glisson is in his first year at Troup.
SHAW AT NORTHEAST-MACON
When: 7:30 p.m.
Where: Thompson Stadium, Macon, Ga.
Records: Shaw 1-2. Northeast-Macon 0-3.
Last week: Shaw was idle. Northeast-Maocn lost 41-0 to Upson-Lee.
Series: Shaw leads 1-0 after a 38-14 victory last season.
You need to know: After a 39-14 victory over Luella to start the season, Shaw has stumbled, losing 45-0 to Northgate and 69-45 to Americus-Sumter. Northeast-Macon has lost seven straight.
KENDRICK AT RUTLAND
When: 7:30 p.m.
Where: Bibb County Sports Complex, Macon, Ga.
Records: Kendrick 1-2, 0-1 Region 2-AAA. Rutland 1-2, 0-1.
Last week: Kendrick lost 38-6 to Jackson. Rutland lost 42-8 to Howard.
Series: Rutland leads 1-0 after a 22-14 win last season.
You need to know: Kendrick opened the season with a 31-0 win over Stewart County before losing to Northside and Jackson. Rutland opened with a loss to Westside-Macon before beating Northeast-Macon and losing to Howard.
GREENVILLE AT PACELLI
When: 7:30 p.m.
Where: Diemel Field
Records: Greenville 2-0, 1-0 Region 4-A. Pacelli 3-0, 1-0.
Last week: Greenville beat Schley County 26-0. Pacelli beat Central-Talbotton 35-14.
Series: Greenville leads 25-8, but Pacelli has won the last two, including a 35-26 victory last season.
You need to know: Greenville has also beaten Haralson County, 20-14. Vex Farley is in his third season at Greenville. He is 8-15. Pacelli is averaging 32.7 points per game. This is the home opener for Pacelli.
SKIPSTONE AT CALVARY CHRISTIAN
When: 7:30 p.m.
Where: Len McWilliams Field
Records: Skipstone 1-2. Calvary Christian 3-0.
Last week: Skipstone lost 30-14 to Dawson Christian. Calvary Christian was idle.
Series: Calvary Christian leads 1-0 with a 34-13 win in 2012.
You need to know: Calvary Christian is led by Anthony Santiago, who has rushed for 408 yards and eight touchdowns.
BROOKSTONE AT HAWKINSVILLE
When: 7:30 p.m.
Where: Bobby Gentry Stadium, Hawkinsville, Ga.
Records: Brookstone 0-2, 0-0 Region 4-A. Hawkinsville 2-1, 1-0.
Last week: Brookstone was idle. Hawkinsville beat Taylor County 21-7.
Series: Hawkinsville leads 4-3, including a 33-7 victory last season. That ended a streak of three straight wins by Brookstone.
You need to know: Brookstone is still looking for the first win in the Scott Pethtel era. The Cougars opened with a 27-21 overtime loss at Mount Pisgah, then lost 21-0 to Columbus. The Cougars have already had two open weeks. Brookstone will be trying to avoid its first 0-3 start since 2003. That season, the Cougars started 0-4 and finished 4-7. Hawkinsville is the defending Class A-public state champion.
CHATTAHOOCHEE COUNTY AT CRAWFORD COUNTY
When: 7:30 p.m.
Where: Roberta, Ga.
Records: Chattahoochee County 1-1. Crawford County 3-1.
Last week: Chattahoochee County was idle. Crawford County beat Stewart County 55-0.
Series: Chattahoochee County leads 1-0 with a 45-22 victory last season.
You need to know: Chattahoochee County opened with a 33-30 loss to Hardaway before beating Calhoun County 37-26 two weeks ago. Crawford County has two shutouts in a row. The Eagles also blanked Montgomery County 35-0 before the win over Stewart County.
MITCHELL COUNTY AT MANCHESTER
When: 7:30 p.m.
Where: Memorial Stadium, Manchester, Ga.
Records: Mitchell County 1-2. Manchester 1-2.
Last week: Mitchell County lost 34-7 to Seminole County. Manchester lost 20-13 to Columbus.
Series: Manchester leads 1-0 with a 26-22 victory last season. Manchester was 1-1 vs. Mitchell-Baker.
You need to know: Mitchell County opened the season with a win over Albany before losing to Pelham and Seminole County. Manchester has beaten Taylor County and also lost to Charlton County.
SPENCER AT PEACH COUNTY
When: 8 p.m.
Where: Anderson Stadium, Fort Valley, Ga.
Records: Spencer 1-1, 0-0 Region 2-AAA. Peach County 2-1, 1-0.
Last week: Spencer was idle. Peach County beat Southwest-Macon 35-12.
Series: Peach County leads 12-0, including a 35-6 win last year.
You need to know: Spencer opened the season with a 21-7 loss to Carver, then beat Northside 21-0. Peach County began the season with a 44-34 loss to Warner Robins before beating Perry 13-6 and Southwest 35-12.
PRATTVILLE AT CENTRAL
When: 8 p.m.
Where: Garrett-Harrison Stadium.
Records: Prattville 3-0, 1-0 Class 7A Region 2. Central 3-1, 2-0.
Last week: Prattville beat Smiths Station 28-7. Central beat R.E. Lee 39-20.
Series: Prattville leads 6-1. The two teams split last year with Central winning 42-34 in the regular season and Prattville winning 26-7 in the second round of the playoffs.
You need to know: Prattville also owns wins over Stanhope Elmore and Gulfport (Miss.). Central has won three straight since losing the opener at Stockbridge (Ga.).
VALLEY AT SMITHS STATION
When: 8 p.m.
Where: Panther Stadium, Smiths Station, Ala.
Records: Valley 2-2. Smiths Station 3-1.
Last week: Valley lost 48-3 to Chelsea. Smiths Station lost 28-7 to Prattville.
Series: Valley leads 19-16, but Smiths Station has won five straight, including 23-10 last season.
You need to know: Both teams step outside their regions for this matchup.
NORTHVIEW AT RUSSELL COUNTY
When: 8 p.m.
Where: Corbett-Mitchell Stadium, Seale, Ala.
Records: Northview 2-1, 2-0 Class 6A Region 2. Russell County 0-3, 0-2.
Last week: Northview beat Carver-Montgomery 23-19. Russell County lost 56-0 to Carroll-Ozark.
Series: Northview leads 7-0, including a 62-0 victory last season.
You need to know: This is the home opener for Russell County. The Warriors have been outscored 169-19 in the three losses. The Warriors have lost 15 straight.
GLENWOOD AT LAKESIDE
When: 8 p.m.
Where: Reeves Field, Eufaula, Ala.
Records: Glenwood 2-1. Lakeside 3-0.
Last week: Glenwood beat Kingwood 26-6. Lakeside beat Coosa Valley 21-8.
Series: Glenwood leads 12-1, including a 27-17 win last season.
You need to know: Glenwood has won seven straight in the series. The only Lakeside win came in 1985.
