Andrews, Santiago lead Calvary to easy win over Skipstone
Calvary Christian defeated visiting Skipstone 38-7 Friday at Len McWilliams Field behind an efficient offense and a stout defense.
The Knights scored on 4-of-5 first-half possessions. The only miscue was a narrowly wide-right miss of a 43-yard field goal attempt as time expired by Thomas Chappel.
Calvary opened the scoring on a 24-yard pass from Kasen Andrews to Mason Henderson for a 7-0 lead.
Anthony Santiago scored on a 36-yard run to cap the second Knight scoring drive, which took 5-plays to cover 62 yards.
Sean Wilkinson attempted the point after try, coming up just short, leaving Calvary with a 13-0 lead.
"It was great for Skipstone coach Salvadore agreed to not rush on extra points because (Wilkinson) has a medical condition and cannot get hit," Calvary coach Brian Osborne said. "Hats off to him for allowing (Wilkinson) to do that tonight."
The Knights took possession on the first play of the second quarter. They drove 42 yards on seven plays, all on the ground to go up 19-0 on Santiago's second touchdown.
Santiago led all rushers, with 134 yards rushing on 14 carries.
Cody Russell intercepted a Skipstone pass and returned it 40 yards for the score, pushing the lead to 26-0.
Kasen Andrews found Bryce Andrews behind the Warrior defense for a 45-yard scoring pass with 2:59 remaining in the half to move the score to 32-0.
Kasen Andrews ended the game completing 3-of-4 passes for 88 yards and two scores.
Ethan Cook added the only second half Knight score when he ran in from 3 yards out and a 38-0 lead.
Skipstone added a score on Marcus Price's 3-yard run with 2:58 remaining for the final score.
Calvary improves to 4-0.Calvary plays Sherwood next week. Sherwood beat Calvary in the state title game last year.
"Our focus every week is to be 1-0," Osborne said of keeping his teams focus. "Even when the score gets out of hand we are on the side line harping, 'working on the fundamentals. Work on the fundamentals.' "
